Watch our virtual panel exploring the evolving role of nonprofits as regional intermediaries at the forefront of education systems change. Drawing on a new MassINC Policy Center case study of Teach Western Mass, the discussion examined what it takes to move beyond direct programs to build collaborative, regional capacity aimed at addressing inequities in the educator workforce.

Panelists reflected on the opportunities and tensions that arise when small nonprofits are charged with leading systems-level change, including questions of organizational structure, governance, and resourcing. The conversation invited diverse perspectives on the role nonprofits should play in systems change, how much regional capacity is needed to sustain this work, and what lessons from Western Mass are transferable to other contexts.

Our founder Pema Latshang was joined by an amazing panel of educators and leaders:

  • Migdalia Diaz, Chief Operating Officer, Latinos for Education & Interim Executive Director, Latinos for Education Massachusetts

  • Nadia Harden, Chief of Staff, New Commonwealth Fund

  • Paulina Murton, Executive Director, Great Schools Partnership

  • Ashanta Ester, TWM Residency Alum and Special Education Teacher, Holyoke Public Schools
